SSR - Standard Submission Rules

With hundreds of new directories, and millions of submissions every day - reading rules for individual directories isn't possible. The SSR aims to erase this problem by offering a standardised set of rules, free for all directories to use. By showing the SSR icon, directory owners can tell submitters that the SSR rules apply, decreasing keyword stuffing and other spam attempts.
  • General

A link must only be submitted once. If multiple submissions are made, the duplications should be deleted and a new single submission allowed.

  • Category

Submissions must always be to the most accurate category. E.g: if a cancer research site is submitted to the category "research" and there is a subcategory in "research" named "cancer", the submission should be deleted.
There are often several sub categories with the same name. Find the most appropriate category path before submitting.
    Two possible categories for "Dogs":

    Recreation > Animals > Dogs
Shopping > Animal Accessories > Dogs

As clearly illustrated, two categories can be widely separated in topic while they still contain an identical category title. Make sure to be careful to submit only to the most accurate category, taking in mind the entire path used to access the category.

  • Title

The title tag should in all cases be the official title of the page. The tag is very often spammed by SEO submitters, striving to boost rankings for a certain keyword. SSR has zero tolerance for keyword stuffing in the title. If the submitted link is pointing to a sub page, the official title is best written in the syntax of:

[Web site title]: [Sub page title]

By forcing this syntax for all sub page submitalls, the directories can make sure a high level of usability.

    Correct: "Microsoft Corporation"
Incorrect: "Software company, browsers, office software"

  • Description

The Description tag may vary in length, depending on local Directory specifications. The descriptions may however, never be used to stuff keywords. By writing in passive tense, the directories can keep neutral tone to sites not thoroughly reviewed. Directory owners should never accept having others state superlative comments about their own sites; this would heavily reduce directory objectiveness and trustworthiness. Example:

Correct: "Global directory containing links to international as well as national web sites. The links are categories by topic and can be sorted by PR, title and votes."
Incorrect: "The Worlds Best Directory with Links to all of the Greatest sites."

  • Keywords

The Keywords tag is used by many Directories to supply matches for searching or for categorizing links. While the rules for this tag often vary heavily depending on local rules, it should never contain both singular and plural forms of the same words.

Correct: "clothing, jeans, t-shirts, shoes, jackets, hats"
Incorrect: "clothing, clothings, jeans, t-shirt, t-shirts, jacket, jackets, hat, hats"

  • Common denominators

Always use passive tense, correct spelling and correct punctuation. The surfer patient is an always dropping factor, which must be respected with punctuation.
Superlatives are entirely banned from titles, descriptions and keywords. If a listing is of exceptional value, it will be commented by the reviewer, since the owners own opinion cannot be seen as objective.
